LLLL.com : the hottest niche of the domain market

We have seen how lately the 4 letters domain names or  simply “LLLL.com” have first run out totally (2 November 2007) and then increased in value every week.

Everywhere people are trying to get some of them if they were late or simply want more if they have some (that`s my case). From eBay to TDNAM.com the prices are simply rising and rising. Why? The answer is easy: demand versus offer.

So why the demand is increasing and offer is decreasing?

There are many reasons behind the increased demand :  LLLL.com are cheaper than the 3 letters .com (LLL.com) , more and more companies and businesses join the internet and they need a short brandable or memorable domain , domain investors have realised that could get a much better ROI with LLLL.com rather than with domain names like 4T6.com or zh8.net

Regarding the decreasing offer, it is possible that with increasing prices, more LLLL.om holders prefer to delist their precious internet properties and wait longer to score much greater ROI. Also, the more people buy them, the less is the number available on the market so it`s a catch 22 that like in the Real Estate market these days, it`s moving prices up and up.

Few months ago, on NamePros.com , I felt that something was missing and that something was a database of LLLL.com domain sales. It would have been useful to have something like that so we could compare prices much better if we were analysing a large amount of names. So Since I did not know how to create a database, I started “The LLLL.com sales report thread” and I could not imagine that just few months later it would have had about 1500 posts and 30,000 views. While it is constantly updated as much as possible , one day, another italian domainer offered his help by creating that database and sharing it with all of us for free. You can visit it at www.TDVR.com : it is very useful because by searching a name in the search bar, you could find the price (or prices if it was bought more than once since the database creation date) of that particular LLLL.com.

And by browsing the sales reports , anyone can see how fast the prices are increasing. While till late November , some domainers were doubting if all LLLL.com were going to be valuable in a year, now just 40 days later , they surrendered to the reality. Certainly we can expect that pronunciables will go higher and rise faster than the unpronunciables , afterall your chances to sell Baby.com or FEPE.com are higher than sell GHQX.com or DSDS.com but that does not mean that GHQX.com or DSDS.com are worthless. In these first fortnight of the year it was expected to see a decreasing number of sales and possibly cheaper prices, considering that during Christmas people have spent most of their spare money……but that did not happen! The year started with solid increased prices spread all over the main LLLL.com market places with eBay and TDNAM.com commanding the lot. Sedo.com followed pretty soon and just few days ago we have seen a poor quality CVCV.com (CVCV = consonant vowel consonant vowel like NIKE or SEDO) going for a staggering $3,225 …..yes YUSU.com was sold at SEDO for $3,225.

Hold on your LLLL.com whatever their letters are , you may be well rewarded in the near future.
